01
Context
A trade union runs on membership records, and a nursing union runs on membership records tied to professional registration. Verifying that an applicant holds valid SANC registration, is employed in a nursing role and remains in good standing is not administrative detail — it determines whether the union can represent that person at all. Handled across spreadsheets and email, it does not scale.
- Applications processed manually against professional registration
- Member status and standing tracked outside any single system
- Representation requests arriving through unstructured channels
- Recurring dues reconciled by hand across membership tiers
02
Strategy
Treat membership as the core record and build outward from it. Everything the union does for a member — representation, consultation, dispute support — depends on knowing who that member is and whether they are in good standing. The platform was scoped around that record rather than around a communications app with a login attached.
- Membership record as the system of truth
- Registration and eligibility verified at application, not later
- Structured intake for representation requests
- Tiered membership to accommodate students and employed nurses
03
Product
A member-facing platform covering the journey from application through active representation.
- Membership application with eligibility capture
- Member portal for status, profile and union communication
- Representation request intake across CCMA, PHDSBC, PSCBC and SALGBC matters
- SANC proceedings and workplace representation workflows
- Tiered membership structure spanning employed and student nurses
- Benefits presentation covering consultation, dispute writing and negotiation support

Technology
A member platform with authenticated portal access and structured application handling, built for a membership base that reaches it primarily from mobile devices.
- Authenticated member portal with profile and status
- Multi-step application capture with verification fields
- Role separation between members and union administrators
- Mobile-first delivery matched to how members actually access it
05
Growth
Union membership grows through professional networks and workplace presence rather than paid acquisition. The platform supports that by making joining possible at the moment of intent, wherever a prospective member encounters the union.
- Self-serve application removing administrative delay at signup
- Mobile-accessible joining path
- Structured onboarding into member communication
